190 miles (306 km), sea to sea from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay.
The Coast to Coast Path is Alfred Wainwright's classic 190-mile (306 km) walk across the breadth of northern England — sea to sea from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea. It became an official National Trail in 2026. Most walkers take 14–16 days; the route divides into 16 day-stages crossing three National Parks — the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors. Tap any stage for its full guide.
Lake District (stages 1–5): St Bees to Shap via Ennerdale, Borrowdale, Grasmere and Patterdale — the highest, hardest fells, topping out at Kidsty Pike (780 m).
Westmorland & Yorkshire Dales (stages 6–10): limestone country and Swaledale, over the watershed at Nine Standards Rigg (stage 8 has three seasonal routes to protect the peat) to Richmond.
Vale of Mowbray (stages 11–12): the flat farmland crossing to Osmotherley and the edge of the moors.
North York Moors (stages 13–16): the Cleveland Hills, heather moor and Esk Dale, finishing on the cliffs at Robin Hood's Bay.
One file for your GPS or hiking app — all 16 stages plus points of interest. Each stage has its own GPX on its page.
